Kindergarten Teachers

Kathy Patterson

This is my 24th year teaching at Bowman Charter School, 15 of which have been in Kindergarten. My goal is to nurture and support each child's natural desire to learn. I love watching their eyes "light up" as they make new discoveries and learn about our world! I enjoy being with them because they make me smile! My husband, Scott, and I live in Auburn and spend lots of time with our 9 grandchildren. We enjoy camping, hiking, and campfires. Each summer we spend time at the ocean. We enjoy listening to the birds and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. I have a collection of seashells that we have collected during our many walks along the beach. There is nothing better than sitting on the sand with a good book after a long walk! We have two very sweet dogs, Sophie and Shorty, who love the beach as much as we do!

Hello! This will be my 6th year teaching at Bowman. I began my teaching career in 1997. I have taught 2nd, 4th, 5th, and Kindergarten.  Kindergarten is my absolute favorite! The student's love for learning makes my job so rewarding.

I received my first degree from C.S.U., Chico in Telecommunications in 1989. I joined the Peace Corps right after graduation and served for two years in Guatemala. Upon returning to California, I worked as a bilingual aide and substitute teacher in Georgetown. I then went back to school to get my teaching credential from C. S. U., Long Beach.

I have two wonderful boys, Dominic, 25 who lives in Los Angeles (an aspiring artist) and James, 15, who just graduated from Bowman.   He will be a sophomore at Roseville High School. The boys and I, like to travel, camp, go to the movies, concerts, and just spend time together. Some of my passions are; art, science, hiking, trail running, DIY home projects, reading, and organic gardening.
