Title I
All about Title I
Title I is a federally-funded program for students. These funds are used by schools to provide extra educational services for children who need additional instruction to reach grade-level standards.
Title 1 at Bowman Charter School is designed to provide students with supplemental instruction in reading and math. The classroom teachers and the Title 1 teacher communicate frequently as they evaluate students and plan and implement appropriate instruction. Program delivery occurs as either pull-out or in-class model based on student need.
The Ackerman School District is fortunate to have Laura Wilkinson as its Title I Director. Laura has 24 years of education experience with 16 of them here at Bowman directing our Title I program. She can be contacted at lwilkinson@bowmancharter.org.

Parents
It takes a team to ensure your student is as successful in school as he or she can be. That team includes the student, the school and you - the parent or guardian. Studies show that students do better when parents are engaged in and supportive of their education. Some ways to help include:
- Keep reading positive!
- Encourage your student to read for pleasure.
- Meet your student’s teachers, either at Back-to-School night or by calling or e-mailing.
- Set aside a designated time and space to do homework; ask every night if your student has work to complete.
- Talk with your student about the school day.
